Do you use a small airport, private landing strip, or small municipal runway? If so, chances are high that the indicators of on-site weather conditions are minimal at best – maybe a windsock, if you’re lucky. While such basic indicators are okay if you’re on the ground, they are simply inadequate if you’re flying in. Weather changes, and after a flying day trip, conditions on the landing site can be significantly different than they were at takeoff. Your safety depends on knowing those specific conditions.
Of course, small airports (and similar) don’t typically have massive budgets for expensive, complicated weather instruments. Although high-end weather instruments have their place, the costs can be prohibitive. On the other hand, department store weather instruments might suit the needs of a gardener but can be unreliable on a larger scope (e.g., small airport).
It would be much more convenient and safe to have current, site-specific weather conditions in the palm of your hand, without having to access a PC, load a web page, or worry about app compatibility each time your phone updates.
Dyacon gives you that.
Pre-Configured Weather Station for Aviation
Dyacon weather stations are made in the USA and are preconfigured for aviation applications. The MS‑130 was created specifically to meet the needs of the aviation industry.
- Wind speed and direction
- SMS (text message) weather reports
- USB configuration
- Air temperature
- Relative humidity
- Barometric pressure
- Modbus slave
- Low-power operation
- Data logger
With these stations, weather reports are provided in an easy-to-use METAR format through a simple SMS text message interface. Once the weather station is installed, you can simply send a text message request from your cell phone and receive an immediate response directly from the weather station. Each METAR report request will send an immediate message followed by updates every 15 minutes for the next two hours. Dyacon weather stations can also automatically upload to Weather Underground, which provides a graphical web interface with historical data.
The integrated cell phone and solar power capabilities allow for remote installations and easy configuration. The system requires no apps, no websites, and no computer voices. No special data logger programming is required. If you can set up your home stereo, you can install a Dyacon weather station.
Basic measurements include wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. Lightning detection is also available for safety alerts.
When combined with a Dyacon tripod, Dyacon weather stations are also portable, which allows you to relocate them for seasonal or temporary landing strips.
